The Giants and Dodgers in a rare moment of cooperation between the two clubs, agreed to a trade:

Rich Hill $7/2 yrs
Josh Harrison $3.5/1 yr

Giants reasoning: Since acquiring Cano I have been looking to flip him because I have depth at 2B. Hill gives me a quality arm as SP depth was an area of need, assuming he can stay healthy! Harrison's position flex allows me to plug him at 3B, move Villar to SS in order to stop being forced to play Danny Espinosa regularly. Jesus Sanchez is skyrocketing up the prospect rankings and Gsellman was a buy low pitching prospect who's pitching horribly now but hopefully he'll figure it out eventually. Calhoun for Diaz is a wash, the Dodgers liked the Dodgers prospect and asked for him in return. Would've preferred not dealing Rivero, but he's only on a one year deal. Deal frees up over $5 in 2017 cash to play with. I have a lot more flexibility in 2018, so the $5.8 coverage provided in 2018 in the difference between the Cano and Hill contracts is palatable, the cost of getting the deal done. Basically trades flexibility in 2018 for flexibility in 2017, which wasnt really the intention here, but it'll potentially be useful.

Giants waive Drew Storen and take the cap hit. $0.25 in 2017.
