I agree to this deal because it is saving me a decent chunk of change in 2018 which I will need to afford some of the other talent I have recently acquired.  6.50 is too much for me to pay for an underperforming backup on my roster.  Bud Norris has been strong this year and is only 0.50 this year,  and with Street going down, I own Bedrosian it makes since, and with Norris having SP/RP eligibility I can play him with the rest of my RP at the same time.  I don't like selling low on Lucroy because I think he will definitely turn it around, but I need the cash next year. Bryan and I were looking for some small change and a 5th rd pick, Lucroy was simply tossed in for balance.
Seriously though, what Gray said above is true and accurate. As for the Cubs, we figured we would do a little FA shopping now instead of the off season. Yes Lucroy has been terrible in 2017 but hopefully he turns it around in Texas or wherever he lands. It's always nice to p/u a FA in season and flip them for value. Good luck Gray with your playoff run.
