Is there no advantage for an owner when signing a UFA in the offseason? For example: I won't have any kind of advantage over another owner if I try to resign Matt Adams this offseason since he is a UFA?

One (FA) is signed in the off season and the other (UFA) is signed during the season.
It's my understanding that when you control a FA contract t the end of the season that you get the advantage to sign your FA in the upcoming off season for a discounted contract. At the moment I don't know the %. However, a UFA is simply placed into free agency and you get no discount.
Again, I think this is correct but I could be wrong.

Yeah there is no advantage for UFA's however if he's a top 50 player via Yahoo rank and you don't win the player in free Agency you will receive a compensation pick in the draft.

The rules make it sound like the only way a guy is a FA is if he was signed during the initial auction? So if I sign a FA this offseason will he be a FA or a UFA?

A FA is someone who was signed in the initial auction or drafted in the initial draft or drafted in the rookie draft

So if you sign someone in the offseason they will be a UFA when there contract is up

All of your MiLB players will be eligible for FA and not UFA and we draft new players every year. So no the "home town discount" will apply to all of those players |
