I did this because I'm rebuilding this year so that means I would only use Verlander next year, plus I clear cap for next year too
Robertson is useless to me this year too
I paid all the money for them except 1 dollar so I could get 2 50c guys for my team to fill in the roster slot (I'm running low on cash haha)
That being said it was still hard to give up a top 10? starting pitcher with great health and a good length contract imo for his age
IN any case,
Clint Frazier is not playing this year and has struggled and hasn't really lived up with his hype, but I'm counting on a bouncebac
I'm a fan of Whitley, fangraphs has them as the #14 overall prospect in a draft or something and I like his numbers
and obviously the pick is going to help me
So yeah

By taking over a team in year 2 and only being able to look back at standings, seeing this team was a playoff team I felt that it lacked quality pitching. Briton will be on the DL so Robertson fills that hole and Verlander is the type of starter I was after. The big help was ATL floating the cash to cover contracts. I gave up what was needed to accomplish the trade and set myself up for a possible 2 year push.
