The Orioles and Giants have agreed to the following trade.

Giants give up 

SP Danny Duffy 8.20 thru 2020

Orioles give up

2019 second round pick
2019 fourth round pick

This trade was to add a starting pitcher for the future. I don't have a lot of pitching going into next season so despite the high salary I feel that he fills a need and having him for two years could be good especially if he pitches well.

I have alot of draft picks so I thought it was worth giving them up to acquire a starting pitcher.

I agree.

I have mixed feelings on whether Duffy will rebound from his disappointing 2018 season, so recouping a couple of picks for him and picking up some future cap flexibility seemed prudent. If he turns it around next year, i might be kicking himself, but I always enjoy extra draft picks so perhaps not.

I'm not throwing in the towel on 2018, just toeing the line between competing this year and looking into the future. Some loaded teams up at the top that do frankly intimidate me a bit heading into the playoffs here.
