Next season is setting up to be a huge year in free agency with all of the qualifying offers. That is why we created this rule is to set up a healthy batch of free agents each season.

I like the thought of a QO because a team is allowed to keep their player one extra year and at a very discounted rate. For example Bryan and I had R. Cano at like $12 in 2018 but in 2019 he's only $7.07. The same idea applies to contracts like C. Sale, M. Machado, M. Trout, B. Harper, AJ Pollock, Noah S., C. Correa, and the likes. Now granted the above players are spread out over several years but in time the market will be quite deep with talent.

Definitely a lot of folks opting for the 1 cheap year over the 20% discount/comp pick (in some cases). Going to be an interesting couple of year for sure.

Honestly think that the QA has just led to all the good players having their FA arrival delayed by 1 year. Not that that's a bad thing, although it's rather inopportune timing for me specifically haha

It simply means as the league becomes more established that future cash may have more importance to some owners when compared to others. It's like current draft picks where some owners trade them all away for current assets. Some people play for today while others like collecting future assets. In time you'll see a team have so much cash in one off season that they can buy themselves a new set of players.
