Reasoning to follow

For me, this was about getting an impact player. Goldy should help me in the next 2-3 seasons and is a top of the line bat. I've inquired about top of the line hitters such as these last year and this offseason, but haven't really been able to get anything done. Goldy is the real deal: a top 10 bat that has average, power, and a sprinkling of stolen bases. These rarely come about.

In exchange for this, I'm giving a prospect package based on Jo Adell. Adell is my top prospect and is pretty much universally regarded as one of the top 10 prospects in the game. I've always been a little lower on him than others, though, because of my obsession with OBP/K rate. There's no doubt he has enormous potential, but I also think I would rather get an impact player now than wait and see if Adell BECOMES a Goldschmidt, especially as I hope to compete in the coming years.

Both LAA and I agreed that Adell alone was not good enough for Goldy+Cash, so I added three more pieces as well. Tellez had a great start to the season last year, but is not a top 100 spec and has k rate problems. Maitan is not a top 100 spec either but has potential, although his value has regressed substantially in the past year. Ruiz is probably the second-best prospect in the trade, as one of the best catching prospects in baseball. LAA and I felt that these additional pieces would be enough to close the gap between Goldy and Adell.

Luckily, I have enough cap room to not need LAA to cover the entire salary, but the 11 dollars helps- especially next year, when there should be some good free agents and my players start entering arbitration.

I accept this deal for many of the reasons listed by the Braves. Goldy is a great player but doesn’t fit into my future plans. I feel like 4 plus prospects is a fair return and will help boost my minors offensively. I will post a follow up message with corresponding roster moves to make these guys fit.
