The Orioles approve this trade as I continue to retool and rebuild this team. The cubs wanted Hosmer and Hosmer wasn't really a big part of my plans but he could really help the Cubs. Cano was thrown in to help offset the 2019 salary difference. I get a nice young infielder in David Bote who is controlled thru 2022 at a very cheap rate as well as 2 solid starting pitching prospects who may or may not be successful, but I can use the pieces and hope they help me in 2020 and especially in 2021.

The Cubs accept the posted trade above.
We like this deal mainly because Hosmer fulfills a need for us until the end of 2021; yes we plan on offering Hosmer a qualifying offer before the 2021 season. We have found it easier to acquire talent through trades instead of free agency. Cano, Bote, and Anderson are nice players but we need to make a few moves now involving MLB players and a few involving prospects for the upcoming off season. Good luck Tony with your rebuild and hopefully a few of these guys will develop for you.

I agree to this trade. We needed the roster space and we get a 1B for a couple years.
