This was a brutal trade to do, for multiple reasons, the most obvious being that Snell might not even be back for the start of the playoffs this year. However, I think I have to come to the reality that as much as I love Paxton I'm not sure I would even be COMFORTABLE starting him in the playoffs this year as he flashes brilliance and then hits me with a 3 IP 8 ER game. I also like Snell for the next 2 years over Paxton. It's counterintuitive because I"m competing but I really think this is a good value play for the next couple of years at least, and honestly if Snell comes back for this year that is also incredibly helpful.
I think this is one of those rare trades that you can truly see both sides for. Colorado gets a pitcher who has shown he can be dominant for an extra year than Snell, which might fit into his timeline better. He also gets a very good top 100 prospect in Lavigne (someone I was partial towards, even with his struggles this year).
Good talking Colorado

At the conclusion of this trade, immediately place Snell on the IL if he wasn't already, please

Good working with Atlanta, Snell's injury has hurt his value but I still feel I was able to get someone in Paxton with upside and he is on a good team so they can overcome a bad outing. I like Lavigne and am looking at him as someone down the road.
Good luck going forward Atlanta
