I accept. I think that Varsho is a very good player. I see him as a 20-20 player year in year out with also a good BA. Perhaps 30 HRs some years. As a rookie, his second half last year was very impressive. Being a C in addition to an OF makes him even more valuable. A rare C.
On the other hand, I have depth at position and I get Baez who is a big question mark (he may not be a starter) but I am glad to take a flier on him, Nick Yorke who is a good Red Sox prospect (kind of hoping he will be the next Pedroia!?), and a higher pick + cash.

I’ve long been a big fan of Varsho. He does all the things you look for in young players and I feel very strongly he’s a long term option at C/OF. It doesn’t come at no cost however because Nick Yorke is much better then I anticipated when I selected him in the draft. Pedroia seems like a far fetched comp at first, but honestly I can see some resemblance. I don’t see Baez as anything other then a throw in, he was probably going to eventually be cut. The money is of no concern to me because I anticipate 2022 to be yet another rebuilding year. Varsho is tied down for a long time so this move isn’t about 2022.
