Our Rookie Draft begins February 26th @ 8:00 AM EST so everyone should start preparing. Everyone needs to clear their low minors roster by the time the draft begins so I’d like everyone to have this done by February 25th. A few of have already done this but there are quite a few that haven’t including myself!
Let me know if you have any questions
Thanks,
Josh (Oakland Athletics)

Are any international guys that haven't signed yet because of the lockout be drafted? My understanding is that they had to be signed by the time you draft them and after the last draft.

Yeah I know that part but given the circumstances I think some of these guys should be available because they are going to sign as soon as this CBA is agreed to. After that then what, just let them go to free agency or have to wait a whole year?

I think we should consider them as signed and therefore, draftable. Otherwise wait a whole year.

I disagree. There is no guarantee that some players, like Suzuki, will sign at all depending on how much the season is delayed. And most of the big under 18 international prospects have already signed. www.spotrac.com/mlb/international/

I agree that Suzuki is no sure thing. Then again, if he signs as planned, how do we deal with that?

That is a good question. One solution might be a compensation pick in next years draft if a team drafts Suzuki or someone else who is supposed to come over from the NPBL and doesn't end up signing.

I think that is a good idea. Make it one pick after the pick that the person used to draft the player?

Question.."Everyone needs to clear their low minors roster by the time the draft" I have six listed in my low minors. Do I have to drop them all? Some are still developing. Options if any?

You can move them up to regular minor league roster if you have room otherwise if you want to keep them you will have to drop some minor leaguers to keep them all.

As Baltimore said you can either move them up to your MiLB roster or drop them. Also if players have not acquired a 0.1 IP or 1 AB in the MiLB that player can remain on the low minors

I’m good with Cincinnati’s suggestion if there are any International players that have been posted but not signed yet can be drafted but if they end up not signing you will not be awarded the player and receive a compensation pick the following year.
So if you pick 5th overall this year and draft Suzuki and he doesn’t sign you would receive 5B pick with would 6th overall next year.
Are there any objections to this? I don’t usually like implementing like this so late in the process so late but this is a unique situation with the CBA agreement.
