Hey guys I have had a couple of owners suggest to me of putting a limit or a cap on the amount of options you can add to the end of a contract during Free Agency. The only reason we did not do this in the first place we tried to follow the rules of the 2 leagues this one was built off of as closely as possible. Me and Gray both believe it is a good idea. It seems somewhat meaningless to have options if every player can have one. By putting a cap on the options it will help fro a better pool of free agents on a yearly basis. My suggestion would be to put a limit of 3 options for an entire season. So once free agency starts you will have 3 options to give to a player during Free Agency until the season ends. Once a new season begins on October 2nd you will have 3 options available again to use during the Offseason free agency and next season's free agency all the way until the end of next season. I really don't see a reason not to do this. Thoughts?
FOR YOUR REFERENCE: You may not give any players options for the Initial Contract assignments.

I vote for nothing because we did an entire draft, some of which long term plans may have been affected by it

I think the option should be two per offseason, I think it helps make the FA process mean something.

I agree there should be a limit on how many players you can have options on. As far as how many, I don't have a preference.

Fine by me. I assume options can only be added to players at the time they are bid on. Not players already on the roster.

Honestly I think we should only be allowed to place an option on one or two players. Because if you do three players there is a possibly of a FA being quite a bit weaker due to several players getting kept due to option years. If we limit the amount of players optioned it will allow for their to be a stronger group of players available as FA. This way it keeps the FA part of this league in pretty good shape.

If you don't put a limit on option contracts then free agency will have less impact on those teams who have cash to spend. having FA's on a yearly basis helps out those other teams who want to make a move. A few of us here are in another league that allows a team to be awarded 2 option year contracts each off season. However, a team may acquire through trades any number of option year contracts So for example if in 2018 a team may place a bid like: Joe Blow (LAA) 3 years plus an option $12.00 So any team is allowed to be awarded a max of two option contracts starting in 2018. If the league allows three then so be it.

I like the idea of two. I think it would work out well for all the teams.

If we go with options does a bid withoit an option trump one with one?

In most dynasty leagues the priority of the bid is: -- amount of yearly salary -- the number of years -- the option

Don't have a strong opinion, but lean more toward an overall limit to assigned options instead of handing out multiple options a year. Like you can use up to X options, you can trade for guys with options, but you can only sign someone and assign them an option X number of times. Once those contracts expire or you trade that player away, you get more back toward your limit.
Once again I need to read the rules carefully, but there should be a risk-reward element to options. Like if you decline an option, you forfeit a discount on them in FA.
