So the options are for the free agents and not the players won in the draft, now I think Miami asked a question for which I can't find it. He asked about having 10 players with 1 year contracts now since we drafted them they aren't entitled to the option. If I am understanding this correctly then the actual player I chose in a auction won the bidding on I can keep for a year? But the backup catcher I signed to fill a hole I can give him an option and have him longer? I'm not sure I understand your question. But I'll take a stab. You can sign a max of 2 5 year, 3 4 year, 4 3 year, 6 2 year, and you can sign unlimited number of 1 year contracts for players you win in this initial auction. There are 15 multi year contracts. So theoretically you would give out those 15 multi year and then 10 1 year contracts for your 25 man roster. But you are not obligated to hand out all your multi year contracts. You may not give options out for players won in the initial auction.

I understand that my question is the option years are for players signed as free agents during the season, so if I sign a backup catcher because mine gets hurt, I can give him an option year but as in your example one of the 10 1 year contract guys I can't.

So the 10 guys and if that's on each team become free agents so 200 free agents at season's end, these players that we have been bidding on and hopefully winning become free agents with no options but those signed during the season have a chance at options at least 2 per year. I think I understand it now.

That's the fun aspect of it. Sometimes you have to make hard decisions when it comes to the players on your team. Like trying to decide how long you want to keep a specific players and I am getting ready to do that right now
